Konrad (VIII,11) became notaries. For capable young men there was the possibility to learn this profession and work their way up through offices without having been at a university. The price they had to pay for their secure position as a public servant was their renunciation of a permanent home. They often had to move and if we talk of the Gaildorf-line and Herrenberg-line of the Haeberlen, we mean that August had been notary in Gaildorf for several years (he also died there, 56 years old) and that Konrad spent many years in Herrenberg. After he was retired with 70 years he moved to Tuebingen. But although the two brothers had left their home when they were still young, they stayed in contact with the family all their lives. This contact in the family is held alive with the help of the family reunion days in Weinsberg.
