from Herrenberg, who had visited Weinsberg very frequently, Karl was the by all accepted head of the family. Nobody was as familiar with the family as he and there is no place in which relatives had lived which he had not visited. And how many relatives had enjoyed his and his wife's hospitality! Loved by young and old, a vivacious personality, he was the right man to be in charge of family reunions.

The invention of these family reunion, of which three have already taken place - tow in Stuttgart in 1926 and 1934 and one in Weinsberg in 1929 - definitely strengthen the family bonds. Up to then there had only been a few, coincidental meetings but now there was a chance to tighten the bonds. The first who had the idea of such a reunion was Gustav Haeberlen (X,45) who thought that would be a good opportunity to exchange information about the family tree. The idea was picked up by a woman - Johanna Haeberlen, born Haeberlen (X,54), the widow of Paul Haeberlen, who had died of his injuries which he had received during the war.
